WASHINGTON (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump said in a broadcast interview on Friday would be a good thing if the police use of choke kept being ended in most cases, although he suggested their use would be understandable in situations where an officer was in danger.
“I don’t like choke keep… (but) sometimes, if you are alone and you are battling someone, it is tough, “Trump told Fox News Channel, while adding:” It would be, I think, a very good thing that, in general, it should be the end. ”
Several Republicans in Congress have pointed out support for a ban on choke keeping the proposed Democratic Party after the death of 25 May of George Floyd, an African American who died after a Minneapolis police knelt over his neck for almost nine minutes. The death of Floyd caused a wave of protests in American cities. Trump on Thursday announces the humble plan for an executive order on policy, while making it clear he will not support the proposed scans in response to the protests.
During the Fox News interview, Trump said the concept of banning choke kept “sounds very perfect.” But he suggested their use could be understandable “if a police officer in a bad leg and he has someone in a choke hold.”
